Overview of Agarwood Formation

Agarwood is a precious, resinous wood that forms in the heartwood of Aquilaria trees. The process begins when the tree is wounded or infected, triggering a natural defense mechanism where the tree produces a dark, aromatic resin. This resin saturates the wood, creating what is known as agarwood or oud. On commercial plantations, this process is intentionally induced.

1. Inoculation: Aquilaria trees are inoculated with a special fungal formula to stimulate resin production.
2. Drilling & Dripping: Holes are drilled into the trees, and an enzyme solution is dripped inside to begin the process.
3. Maturation: The resin-rich heartwood develops over a period of two to three years.

Product Manufacturing Processes

1. Agarwood/Oud Oil Production

There are two primary methods for extracting the valuable oil from agarwood.

A. Steam Distillation This traditional method transforms chipped agarwood into a potent oil.

• Process: The creation of steam-distilled oil is a meticulous process that includes selecting raw materials, preprocessing, distillation, filtering, and quality control. It is produced in a clean environment to maintain its beneficial content.
• Characteristics:
  • Aroma: Strong, musky, and woody.
  • Color: Dark Brown.
  • Lasting Duration: 10 to 18 hours.

B. CO2 Supercritical Fluid Extraction This modern technique uses a low-temperature, high-pressure environment to produce a refined oil.

• Process: This method results in a high-quality oil with a different scent profile, often preferred for its sweet and pleasant aroma.
• Characteristics:
  • Aroma: Sweet, flowery wood.
  • Color: Light Brownish.
  • Lasting Duration: 10 to 18 hours.

2. Agarwood Tea Production

The tea is made from handpicked leaves to ensure the highest quality.

• Step 3: Packing: The finished leaves are packed into individual sachets.
